We’ve been writing all week about local Labor Day happenings. Here’s a recap of those event details for easy reference, plus a few more options within a reasonable driving distance:
BELFAIR
Highland Celtic Festival: All day Saturday and Sunday at Belfair State Park. Details in the story at the bottom of this page.
BREMERTON
Blackberry Festival: Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the downtown waterfront boardwalk. Admission is free.
From blackberry “slugs” to blackberry sausage to
blackberry wine, treats of all kinds are available for purchase. Festival proceeds benefit the Bremerton Rotary Foundation.
Note: Dogs are not allowed at this event.
CHINOOK
Chinook Arts Festival: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Highway 101 and Olympia Street.
Artists from the Long Beach Peninsula and beyond will show and sell their jewelry, pottery, paintings, photographs, sculptures, blown and stained glass pieces, and more.
COPALIS CROSSING
Community Garage Sale: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the fire hall, 1617 Ocean Beach Road in Copalis Crossing. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Copalis Crossing Firefighters Association.
Breakfast will be available from 8 to 10 a.m., followed by lunch (hot dogs and nachos) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations will be requested for those meals. A $5 spaghetti dinner will begin at 4 p.m. as the sale closes.
OCEAN SHORES
Arts &Crafts Festival: All weekend at the Convention Center, with proceeds benefiting Associated Artists of Ocean Shores. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
About 70 artisans and food vendors are showing their wares. Outside, custom and classic cars are on display.
On Saturday, drum circles will be led by a local instructor throughout the day, an outdoor beer garden will be set up and the Bruce Hughes Band will perform live from 2 to 6 p.m. Strolling musicians will play both days.
Paddle the Shores: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Oyhut Bay Seaside Village.
These annual races are open to human-powered watercraft of all kinds. Activities include 2-mile and 6-mile human-powered boat races, the Poker Paddle, a rubber duck pond and race for kids, a cardboard boat building and race competition, a Quinault paddle exhibition, skills demonstrations and more. Live music will be performed from noon to 5 p.m. in the amphitheater.
OLYMPIA
44th annual Harbor Days Tugboat Races &Festival: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 am. to 6 p.m. Sunday, with activities at Port Plaza and Percival Landing.
Historic tugboats from as far back as 1910, steamships and the tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will be moored in Olympia for tours and harbor cruises. Arts, crafts, food and music will be offered, as well as boat safety and other demonstrations throughout the weekend. Tugboat races begin at noon Sunday. For more info, visit harbordays.com.
Pacific Beach
Kelpers Festival &Shake Rat Rendezvous: Starts at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Pacific Beach. Vendors will line Main Street, with live music and plenty of activities both days.
Saturday’s events will kick off with a firemen’s breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Community Center, with donations to benefit the local fire district. The kiddie parade starts at noon at the post office, followed by the town tug-of-war at 1 p.m. at the Second Street beach approach. A street dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Wacky Warehouse.
Sunday will bring the always outlandish Kelpers Parade, and logging skills competitions will be held throughout the festival.
PUYALLUP
Washington State Fair: Opened Friday and runs daily through Sept. 24 at the Washington State Fair Events Center. (Closed every Tuesday and this Wednesday, Sept. 6.)
For Labor Day Weekend, the gates open at 9:30 a.m. daily and close at 10:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 p.m. on Monday.
Tickets are $14 for adults, $10.50 for students and seniors.

SOUTH BEND
Come and Play on Labor Day: Started Thursday and continues through Monday with a wide variety of goings-on including live music, a salmon derby, a softball tournament, midway games, book sale, kids’ activities, poker paddle and duck races.
A $25 dinner and bluegrass concert to benefit the South Bend Volunteer Fire Department starts at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Chamber of Commerce. The Grand Parade starts at noon Sunday in downtown South Bend.

WESTPORT
Seafood Festival &Craft Show: Noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Maritime Museum. Artist booths will open at 10 a.m., and musical duo All In will perform.
At noon, the seafood feast will begin. For $15 ($12 for seniors), visitors can enjoy a full meal of barbecued salmon, white fish, bay shrimp cocktails, oysters, corn on the cob, salad and soda. Cups of clam chowder also will be available for $5. Kids can get a $4 meal with a Hungry Whale hot dog and a soda. For adults, beer and wine also will be offered for $5 each.
Corvettes at the Marina: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday along Westhaven Drive.
Vintage and modern beauties will be on display at this eighth annual event, hosted by Corvettes of Grays Harbor. Dozens of sleek Stingrays and other models from years past will vie for trophies in various categories, and a raffle will be held.
Check-in starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, and the show will end with a parade at 3 p.m.
