Hoquiam and Aberdeen high school seniors who received “Silver and Gold” awards for their work in and out of the classroom were honored at separate celebrations last month.
The Silver and Gold Award ceremony is normally a combined gathering of the students from both schools and held at the Rotary Log Pavilion in Aberdeen. Because of pandemic restrictions, for the past two years schools have held separate events, this year at their respective schools, Hoquiam May 17 and Aberdeen on May 26.
Students are nominated for the award by staff members from each school, said Ashley Kohlmeier, Aberdeen ASB Adviser. It’s then up to school administrators to whittle the list down to the final 10 from each school. Each recipient was presented with a small wooden plaque emblazoned with “2021 Silver and Gold Award” and the student’s name.
This year’s award winners from Aberdeen were Riley Bowen, Brooke Solan, Lauren King, Ashlyn Yakovich, Susan Brenenstahl, Ivan Ruvalcaba, Hannah Mareth, Kallie King, Jimmy Boora, and Connar Sherman. From Hoquiam, Makenna Catron, Joe Rodgers, Cayden Kempf, Noah Sudderth, Emiley Daniels, Sadie Carlyle, Tauni Hilliard, Hailey Lawrence, Emiley Elders, and Amelia Mohr were honored.
