On Oct. 11, Aberdeen High School senior Katelynn Lewis received a $100 check from the Aberdeen Rotary as the group’s Student of the Month.
Katelynn, the daughter of Arnie and Maureen Lewis, has a GPA of 3.992 and currently is ranked seventh in her class.
As president of the AHS National Honor Society, she helped establish a new program called Rent-A-Tutor, in which Honor Society members help other students with their homework. “I am especially proud of this because I hope it creates a more success-driven environment at AHS,” she says.
As a member of the AHS girls swim team, Katelynn was voted “Most Inspirational” for the 2015 season and received the Coach’s Award in 2017. This past year, she was named swim captain.
She grew up going to St. Mary School and Parish, where she was elected head altar server and received the Father Charles E. Kelley Memorial Award.
“When I got confirmed, I also became a eucharistic minister,” says Katelynn. “The church has always been my favorite place to give back, because I know the value that it has had on my life.”
She has applied to several universities in Washington and Oregon, but has not yet chosen a degree path. “I am going to explore several fields before I pick my major,” she says.
The Aberdeen Rotary names a Student of the Month from AHS’ senior class regularly from October through May. Then, in June, the club chooses two of those monthly winners to receive college scholarships of $1,000 and $2,000.
