Brooke Solan has been selected as Aberdeen High School’s Rotary Student of the Month for March.

She is the daughter of Susan and Steve Solan.

Brooke, a senior has accumulated a 4.0 grade-point average in high school and will be graduating as class valedictorian, ranked No. 1 out of 218 students. She is a National Honor Society member, a World Class Scholar and takes all Advanced Placement core classes. She is also a long-serving member of AHS Leadership, having served as ASB secretary her freshman through junior years and as ASB treasurer as a senior.

She served as an Outdoor School counselor, mentoring local sixth-graders, during her sophomore and junior years and was disappointed it was canceled her senior year due to the pandemic. She is currently Mathletes president, FBLA vice president, and student representative to the school district Board of Directors. She has also been Aberdeen High’s Food Ball chairperson for four years and was the first freshman to serve in that post.

Dancing since she was 3 years old, she was cast in the high school production of “Oklahoma,” even as a seventh grader. That was her first AHS musical and she has been cast in every musical since. She was also cast in several Bishop Center musicals, including “Mary Poppins,” “Anything Goes,” “Billy Elliott” and “Oliver,” which was cut short due to the pandemic, which also canceled her junior and senior year of AHS Drama productions.

Her achievements include: the Jud Graham Memorial Award for the outstanding junior-class girl, a Mathletes State qualifier, Business Week winner and sophomore Spirit Week princess, and she recently placed first in the FBLA Impromptu Speaking competition and will be participating in the state-level competition soon. Brooke is also a 2021 Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation semifinalist. She plans to attend a four-year university in the Northeast, though has not yet decided on a specific school.

Each year, the Aberdeen Rotary Club honors Aberdeen High School seniors through its Student of the Month recognition and scholarship program. One senior is recognized each month between October and May. In June, two of these eight students are then selected for either the $1,000 “Blue” or $2,000 “Gold” scholarship to the school of their choice.
