31st Annual Cranberry Harvest Festival in Grayland this weekend

The 31st Annual Cranberry Harvest Festival in Grayland takes place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12-13, at the Historic Grayland Community Hall.

The Westport/Grayland Chamber of Commerce, Grays Harbor Tourism, Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. and the WA State Cranberry Alliance are once again sponsoring a weekend of food, fun and an opportunity to experience actual cranberry harvesting up close and personal on one of the Saturday guided bog tours.

Visit the many booths located indoors and outdoors on the grounds of the Historic Grayland Community Hall. Featuring everything from locally grown cranberries, to woodworking, metal art, handmade crafts and Cranberry Salad dressing and so much more.

Live action harvesting will take place on Saturday only. Board the bus for a trip through the bogs, stopping for a guided tour and ending with a visit to the Cranberry Museum.

A Cranberry Eating Contest is Sunday. See how many berries you can eat.

The Firefly Parade begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evening. You can enter a brightly lit float or just enjoy it from the roadside as the parade leaves from the Community Hall and goes down state Route 105 to the fire station.

For event and accommodation information, call the Westport/Grayland Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Information Center at 360-268-9422 or visit the website at www.cometowestport.com.

Driftwood Players present ‘The Play That Goes Wrong!’

The Driftwood Players present the, “The Play That Goes Wrong!”

This show is side-splitting start to finish.

The play is written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, and directed by Brad Duffy, with mentor director Ryan Colburn.

The story: It’s opening night of the Cornley Polytechnic University Drama Society’s newest production, “The Murder at Haversham Manor,” where things are quickly going from bad to utterly disastrous. The Drama Society sets out to open their run of this 1920s whodunnit, but everything you never wanted in a show — an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines) — starts to ensue. Nevertheless, the accident-prone thespians battle against all odds, poison, and peril to make it through to their final curtain call, with hilarious consequences.
