Final Master Gardener “First Saturday” series to be held June 3

“Practical Tips for Gardening”

On June 3, the final workshop of the Spring 2017 Master Gardener “First Saturday” series will be held 10 a.m. to noon at the WSU Extension Office at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds in Elma.

The workshop focus is “Practical Tips for Gardening.” The class is coming just as spring gardening is gathering momentum. Master Gardener presenters will address an eclectic assortment of useful topics including, “pruning and tool maintenance,” “what weeds tell you about your soil,” “how to deadhead plants” and composting.

A plant clinic will follow the training. The plant clinic is an opportunity to have gardening questions answered. The Master Gardeners ask that samples of problem plants (preferably in a plastic bag) be brought for the Master Gardener clinician to see.

The workshop is free, and preregistration is not required. People interested in the workshop are welcome to contact Cindy Burton at cindyaburton@comcast.net for more information.

Hoquiam workshop

A second workshop, co-sponsored by Master Gardeners and Hoquiam Timberland Library, will take place on June 17, noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Hoquiam library. Learn the secrets of proper pruning. After an explanation of basic pruning skills, Master Gardeners will lead a demonstration outside.

It’s the final program in the Hoquiam Timberland Library’s “Master Gardening” series. The Hoquiam Timberland Library is located at 420 7th Street, in Hoquiam. If you have questions, contact the library at 532-1710.
