The Washington State University Master Gardeners program has scheduled two free workshops and two plant clinics.
At 1 p.m. this Saturday, Master Gardener intern Shellie-Ann Kerns will present “Gardening for Renters.” This one-hour workshop, offered in partnership with the Hoquiam Timberland Library, will focus on container and vertical gardening and getting the greatest impact out of small spaces. Kerns will talk about brightening up a patio, growing vegetables in small spaces, and making good use of windowsills and balcony railings.
No fee or preregistration is required. The library is located at 420 Seventh St. in Hoquiam.
For more information or questions about this class, call the library at 360-532-1710.
The second workshop, “Attracting Wildlife to Your Garden,” will run from 10 a.m. to noon May 6 at the WSU Extension office at the Elma Fairgrounds.
Presenters will discuss the needs of birds, insects, amphibians and other wildlife found in this region. They also will share ways to modify landscaping to attract those creatures to your garden.
Again, no fee or registration is required. For more, contact Cindy Burton at cindyaburton@comcast.net.
Two free plant clinics also will be offered May 6, with Master Gardeners on hand to answer questions. One will follow the Elma workshop at noon at the WSU Extension office. The other will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dennis Co., 220 N. Boone St. in Aberdeen.
