The WSU Master Gardeners of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties will offer a class this weekend on “Great Beginnings for the Vegetable Garden.”

This free “First Saturday” class will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, rain or shine, at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at the Elma fairgrounds. No preregistration is required.

Master Gardeners will talk about how to grow veggies in our Pacific maritime climate, with emphasis on:

• The hardiness zones we live in, and what that means when choosing vegetable seeds and starts.

• How to water during our dry summer months.

• The best soil amendments for your vegetable garden.

• All about starting vegetables from seeds.

• How to choose vegetables that will prosper in containers or raised beds.

After the workshop, there will be a plant clinic. Bring your gardening questions and, if appropriate, examples of problems you are experiencing in your garden.
