The recently renamed Olson Band will throw a record release party Saturday at Charlie’s Sports Bar in Montesano.
The band’s founders — brothers Luke Olson on vocals and lead and acoustic guitar, and Isaac Olson on vocals, acoustic guitar and mandolin — have developed a solid following across the region and beyond. They said Charlie’s seemed a natural choice to hold the record release event, it being a regular spot for them to connect with fans and not all that far from their home base in Olympia.
“We have a lot of fans and a lot of support in the area,” said Luke. “We figured it would be really exciting to do it there.”
Kaylee Olson brought her vocal touch to the band awhile back after she and Luke met in Nashville. Both were studying music at Belmont University, and she has since performed with the band live and on the last two albums. She and Luke tied the knot last June — prompting a change in the group’s original name, the Olson Brothers Band.
“Dancin’ in the Headlights” was recorded in Nashville with the help of several producers — some local, some from the Nashville area. The title track is getting airplay on Grays Harbor country radio stations, along with previous singles “Kiss Me Slow,” “By and By” and “Dangerous.”
The single “If I Find You” has reached more than 1.8 million streams on Spotify, and recently the band realized they had some international appeal as well. “Our bass player (Milo Mullins) found a video online of a couple hundred people line-dancing to one of our songs at the Disneyland in France,” said Isaac.
The brothers’ music careers took flight in 2013 when they won the “battle of the bands” competition at Olympia’s Capital Lake Fair. They also won a national songwriting contest for their hit song “Sunrise” in the Texaco Country Showdown, for which they were awarded $5,000 and a trip to Nashville to consult with a publishing company — and got introduced at the Grand Ole Opry.
The band will continue to tour around the state and in Nashville, holding other record release events through the month of February. You can listen to their music, find tour dates and learn more about them online at theolsonbrosband.com and find their music videos on YouTube.
Tickets for the release party at Charlie’s are $5 and can be purchased in advance at brownpapertickets.com/event/3905928, or at the door. Those buying tickets online have the option to get a copy of the new album for an additional $5.
The show, restricted to those 21 and older, starts at 9 p.m. Charlie’s is located at 315 S. Main St. in Montesano, next to the VFW.
