The Ocean Shores Library Foundation is seeking applicants for its five-member board of directors.
The nonprofit foundation was created in response to an unexpected legacy gift in August 2018, which allowed for the library’s 2019 expansion. To get things up and running quickly, the library’s board of trustees agreed to serve as the initial foundation board, with the caveat that it would not be for the long term.
“Having the board of trustees do double duty for the foundation was a stopgap measure, but also valuable because of their knowledge of library history and needs,” said Denise Siers, who currently serves as president of both boards. “Now that the expansion is complete, we’d like to reinforce the distinctive roles between city library board and foundation with different members.”
The foundation serves to assist in funding the current and future needs of the library beyond public monies for initiatives, capital improvements, and resources to meet community needs, she said. Along with Siers, the founding board members are Jeff Brittain, Alex Suarez, Kathy Baker and Jeni Cate.
