Grays Harbor College’s Summer Musical is a Tony award-winning Broadway play.
“Spring Awakening” opens for four performances starting Thursday at the Bishop Center for the Arts.
Directed by GHC drama instructor Brad Duffy, the show will run at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, then finish with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee.
“This has been a show I have wanted to do for some time now,” said Duffy. “And I have great cast members who … are excited because this show talks about subjects that young people struggle with as they become adults.”
Based on a German play written in 1891, “Spring Awakening” was revived in 2007 as a Broadway show, receiving eight Tony awards including Best Musical.
“Spring Awakening” explores the journey from adolescence to adulthood with poignancy and passion, Duffy said. The modern script is backed by a pop-rock score.
Cast members are Laura Smith, Libby Carrico, Bro Bonell, Keola Holt, Rebecca Meacham, Jerrod Phelps, Casey Bronson, Adam Cooper, Trey Bennett, Quentin Sotomish, Chris Fruto, Julayne Fleury, Sadie Karl, Connor Nuchols and Gordon Shaw.
The Summer Musical is sponsored by Ingram, Zelasko and Goodwin law firm and the Marian J. Weatherwax Endowment.
Tickets cost $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for students. They are available at www.ghc.edu/bishop.
