The Auction on 8th Street is dedicating an entire evening to PAWS of Grays Harbor.
The Hoquiam venue stages an auction every Friday, usually estate sales and other miscellaneous stuff people bring in. But this Friday, it will benefit the Aberdeen no-kill animal shelter.
“All proceeds will go to help the many animals in our community who need care, shelter, food and love,” said PAWS board member Marcy Merrill, who’s helping to coordinate the event.
The auction will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and continue until everything is sold.
Everything on the block was donated for this purpose. The eclectic mix of stuff includes an Asheville mandolin, several guitars and other musical equipment; lots of furniture, including a Drexel Heritage sofa and chair; vintage clothing, dishes and more; and even an entire beauty salon station and waxing beds.
Also up for sale is a large painting by Wayne Zimmerman, a past photo editor at the Tacoma News Tribune. The 48- by 38-inch piece depicts logs on the beach, “capturing the essence of Western Washington in oil on board,” said Merrill, adding that it graced the wall of a Tacoma bar for many years before she acquired it.
Two local pubs also are participating in the fundraiser. Hoquiam Brewing Co., right across from the auction house, will be donating $1 to PAWS for every pilsner sold during the month of November.
Down the street, the 8th Street Ale House has gift baskets on display to be raffled Friday for PAWS. The Ale House also will distribute coupons good for half off an appetizer to all auction attendees.
The Hoquiam auction house is accepting donations of good, usable items for this sale through 5 p.m. Thursday at 505 Eighth St. Anyone interested in buying can preview items on-site during the day on Friday, or browse online at the Auction on 8th Street’s Facebook page on Thursday night.
