It’s officially spring cleanup time!

We gave you some warning a few weeks back that now’s the time to begin to start tackling both inside and outside spring cleaning chores — as well as planning ahead for any major projects.

Now we’re happy to pass along that, once again, many of the area’s municipalities are sponsoring free “spring cleanup days” at the LeMay Transfer Station — or bringing the containers to you.

Each has a little different arrangement, so make sure to read about your specific area.

It’s been a few years now since Grays Harbor County has sponsored a cleanup for all those living out in the county instead of in a city. Unfortunately, that is still the case: no free cleanup day. However, you might still consider using the fresh spring weather to give your place a once-over and gather up your usable — but no longer needed — stuff to sell or donate.

Then, for as little as $10.46 for up to 200 pounds (or, if you have lots of stuff, it costs $101 for a ton), with a sliding scale in between, take the actual junk to the LeMay Transfer Station at 4201 Olympic Highway in Aberdeen.

As far as home improvement and curb appeal, not to mention a sense of peace and pride, that’s a great investment. Just ask your neighbors.

TRANSFER STATION HOURS

LeMay Transfer Station is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. It’s closed on Sundays and some holidays.

The Hazardous Waste Site, which is free to use, is open on the first Wednesday and Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The e-cycle area is also free to use. That’s where you can take your computer monitors, screens, towers, televisions, etc. It is open at all times for dropoff; but if you require assistance, come on a Tuesday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Recyclables are also free to dispose of at the LeMay Transfer Station. Items accepted include glass bottles (no plate glass windows, etc.), tin, aluminum (no scrap metal or paint cans), flattened cardboard, milk jugs, newspapers and mixed paper.

ABERDEEN

For Aberdonians, the month of April is yours for a free dump day. The city of Aberdeen will be issuing vouchers for those who live within city limits.

If you are an Aberdeen resident, you should be receiving a postcard soon. This voucher — accompanied by a driver’s license — is your ticket to a trip to the LeMay Transfer Station any day the transfer site is open, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 1-31 (not Sundays).

You may want to consider making your trip on April 4 or 7 if you have hazardous waste to dump. The Hazardous Waste Site is free, but it’s only open the first Wednesday and Saturdays of each month. So, you might as well combine the trip!

HOQUIAM

Your clean days aren’t until June 6-9. We’ll be giving you more details in a future column. Similar to Aberdeen’s cleanup, you will receive a voucher in the mail. Take that voucher with your driver’s license to the transfer station on those days for a free trip to the dump.

COSMOPOLIS

Mark April 14 on your calendar. You, too, should be receiving a voucher to use for your free trip to the LeMay station. In fact, we’ve heard they’ve already started mailing them out. If you don’t have yours soon, contact Cosmopolis City Hall.

WESTPORT

For you folks in Westport, May is your month. Soon vouchers will be available at City Hall for you to pick up. Anytime the Transfer Station is open during the month of May, just take that voucher with your license to the transfer station.

McCLEARY

Folks in McCleary, waste containers will be brought to your town April 28 — saving you a trip. Mark that day on your calendar!

TOKELAND-

SHOALWATER BAY

Those living in Tokeland and Shoalwater Bay, you also will be receiving containers in your town to help with your annual spring cleanup. They should arrive April 30 and stay a couple of weeks.

So, that’s all we have for now. This gives you some time to begin cleaning and sorting.

It seems like a big job to get rid of stuff, but boy does it look good, feel good, and make your house and neighborhood look sharp!
