While “Auto Parts” is in their name, what shopping with Aberdeen’s Cut Rate Auto Parts really provides is access to their people: Their years of experience, their passion for vehicles and their emphasis on customer service.
In fact, what many people don’t know about the Grays Harbor staple – with three other western Washington locations – is that their story actually began right here in 1955 when brothers Buzz and Willie Allan first opened the doors.
The goal? “To help the do-it-yourselfer to fix their vehicles,” says owner Tracy Leckenby. “We wanted to support the local community by offering a quality product at an affordable price.”
That history is further underscored by the longevity of both their staff and customer base. “We have employees and customers who have been with us for more than 40 years – we even have three generations here, grandfather, son and grandson,” says Leckenby, who himself started with Cut Rate Auto Parts back in 1986 stocking shelves.
While the store also offers wholesale sales, the focus is on local vehicle owners, and that means offering both the product and expertise they need.
“We get cars. Our staff are showing cars, racing cars, and buying and selling cars,” Leckenby says.
“You can buy the things we sell at a lot of places, but you can’t get the knowledge we have.”
It’s also about the quality of the experience for customers, who in many cases are coming to the store because of a problem with their vehicle.
“They may not be happy to be there, so our challenge is to make the experience with us one that has them happy when they leave,” Leckenby says.
In addition to repeatedly being named “Best Auto Parts Store,” the shop’s 4.7-star Google reviews emphasize the quality of that service: “Out of every parts store in town these guys have great advice, helped with what I needed and steered us in the right direction every time.”
Recognizing the extra challenge COVID-19 has brought local residents, Cut Rate Auto Parts adapted quickly to continue providing the essential service people needed to get to work, school and everywhere else they need to be. The focus throughout has been on providing these services safely, including the recent launch of their easy-to-navigate online store.
“We’re here for you, and if you don’t feel comfortable coming into the store, we can bring it out to your car, or even come to you,” Leckenby says.
