Grays Harbor County’s COVID-19 case count ticked over 1,300 Tuesday, with 11 new cases, bringing the total to 1,309.
The number of active and total close contact investigations will no longer be reported by the county, the incident management team announced Wednesday.
“Case investigators will still be asking people who are positive with COVID-19 to provide their close contacts,” said incident management team spokesman Nicklaus Falley. “A close contact is defined as being within six feet of a person who tested positive for COVID-19 for a duration of at least 15 minutes during their infectious period. These contacts will be contacted by case investigators, asked to quarantine, and monitored for the duration of their quarantine.”
Some recent cases have been assigned to the state Department of Health for investigation because of the high number of cases in the county recently, and in those cases the contacts are assigned to the state.
“When cases are assigned to the state, all contacts in those cases are assigned to the state,” said Falley. “While this partnership has been helpful to ensure that cases are investigated promptly, the current arrangement delays the accessibility of information to the local health jurisdictions.”
The number of active cases as of Wednesday, those under isolation or quarantine, was 285, up three from the previous day’s report. With contact investigation information no longer available from Grays Harbor Public Health, it’s unknown if the number of active contact investigations has changed from the previous day’s number of 333.
