The Aberdeen City Council approved the purchase of two new firetrucks for the city during a meeting Wednesday. The total cost of the two trucks is $1,679,438, with one costing a little more than $735,000, and the other a little under $944,000.
Unlike previous instances when the city typically went to voters to approve a levy to help pay for new firetrucks, Mayor Erik Larson said it was through “savings and revenue-beating projections” that the city money on hand to pay for the trucks.
Aberdeen Fire Chief Tom Hubbard said the two old 1994 firetrucks being replaced would likely be surplussed through a government program, and that he isn’t sure what the value would be. Hubbard said the new firetrucks would likely not be put into use until a little more than a year from now.
