Aberdeen City Councilor Stan Sidor resigns

City seeking to fill vacant Ward 4 Seat; deadline to apply is March 21

According to a press release issued by the city of Aberdeen, Ward 4 City Councilor Stan Sidor has resigned, effective Feb. 14. Sidor was appointed to the Council in September 2022 and defeated Glenn Meissner in the 2023 general election.

In a Facebook post on Feb. 14, Sidor said, “I am resigning my position on the Aberdeen City Council in order to pursue other interests that conflict with my ability to continue serving on the council. It has been an honor and a pleasure to represent you on the council. Thank you for your support.”

Councilor Kacey Ann Morrison said via Facebook, “I want to thank Councilmember Sidor for his years of service on the Council and in the community. His tenacity and bold voice will be sorely missed. I wish him nothing but the absolute best in his future endeavors.”

The press releases states: “Registered voters living in Ward 4 are encouraged to apply to fill the vacant position by completing an application and supplemental questionnaire and providing a cover letter and resume. Required documents are due no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025. Applications are available on our website, in person, or can be requested by email to Deputy Clerk Becca Weiss at rweiss@aberdeenwa.gov. The City’s Charter authorizes the City Council to fill councilmember vacancies by a vote of the remaining members of the council.”

After the application and selection process, the newly appointed councilor will take the oath of office on April 9. To keep the council seat beyond their appointment, the new member will have to file their intention by May and be elected into office in the General Election. Each ward has two councilors and Deb Hodgkin continues to represent Ward 4.
