Aberdeen man arrested on suspicion of second degree rape of a child

Police: 20-year old man accused of having sex with victim witnesses say he knew was 13

Aberdeen Police have arrested a 20-year old Aberdeen man and charged him with second degree rape of a child after the suspect was accused of having sex with a 13-year old girl.

Police were alerted by a call from Child Protective Services on Oct. 14, when a CPS worker reported a sexual assault involving a 13-year old female victim. When interviewed by police, the victim gave a statement about the incident and identified the suspect as a 20-year old man from Aberdeen.

When first interviewed by the Aberdeen detective assigned the case, “the suspect denied having a sexual relationship with the victim,” according to Aberdeen Police Lieutenant Kevin Darst. Later in the same conversation, however, the suspect stated “I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.”

The suspect gave a statement to the detective of his version of events, but denied that he had sex with the victim. The detective then contacted a juvenile female witness who claimed to have seen the suspect having sex with the victim, adding the suspect was told the victim was 13 before the alleged assault occurred. Another juvenile was interviewed at the location when the sexual assault was said to have occurred, and “he confirmed that the suspect had sex with the victim and knew that she was 13 years old,” said Darst.

The man was arrested Tuesday and charged with Rape of a Child in the 2nd Degree. He was booked into jail and was scheduled for arraignment in Grays Harbor Superior Court Wednesday afternoon.
