Aberdeen Police investigating a Sunday morning drive-by shooting said the incident was “not a random act” and are seeking tips from the public to aid in their investigation, according to Lt Kevin Darst.
Officers were sent to the 1400 block of Ralph Road just after 7:30 a.m. Sunday to investigate a report of several gunshots heard in the area and a brown passenger vehicle that may have been involved that was last seen driving toward Huntley Street. Officers contacted the victim in front of her home, along with several witnesses. One witness heard six or seven shots while the victim and several family members were sleeping in the house. When they came out of the house they found that two of their vehicles and their home had been struck by gunfire.
Aberdeen Police detectives processed evidence at the scene and continue to interview witnesses, according to Darst, who added that one of the bullets just missed a sleeping child in the house.
Darst said two members of the family at the victim’s residence fled before police arrived and were uncooperative. He said this appeared to be a targeted attack, not random, and has asked anyone with information on the incident to call the Aberdeen Police Department Investigations Section at 533-3180.
