The Salvation Army thrift store in Aberdeen reopened Thursday with upgraded facilities and an improved layout. According to David Puszczewicz, retail director for the Salvation Army Northwest Division, the main change was to reorganize by moving all products on the second floor to the first floor, thus condensing and streamlining the store into fuller aisles.
“We’ve condensed everything, without losing quantity of what we’re carrying,” said Puszczewicz. “We just staged it differently, with new racks, and reorganized to make it more efficient and shoppable.”
After closing on Feb. 19, volunteers and Salvation Army staff spent hours cleaning the entire store.
The staff also restocked the store with new goods. Now displayed inside the street-facing windows is brand new furniture from a nearby warehouse. In the back are also new mattresses, and sections offering linens, jewelry and colorful socks.
Puszczewicz added that volunteers played a big part in helping renovate the space.
“There were a lot of volunteers, the community was a huge support,” Pusczewicz said. “We just kind of stayed here until coffee and donuts were abundant.”
The store, located at 118 W. Wishkah St. in downtown Aberdeen, also has new hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Salvation Army Lt. Lincoln Hawk, who is stationed in Aberdeen, said he looks forward to increased activity at the newly opened store.
“We are thrilled to be a part of the grand re-opening of the thrift store here in Aberdeen,” said Hawk. “We look forward to increased product donations from the community and for more shoppers to discover new treasures.”
