Aberdeen traffic stop leads to drug bust of Elma resident

On Saturday at about 11:17 a.m., an Aberdeen police officer observed a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe in the 500 block of W. Heron Street with a defective brake light and turn signal.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as a 34-year-old resident of Elma. A routine records check revealed that the driver’s license was suspended, leading to his arrest. During the stop, the officer noticed a pistol holster, small baggies commonly used in the sale of illegal drugs, and other items that suggested the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded, and a search warrant was obtained. Upon executing the warrant, the officer discovered approximately 76 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 12 grams of suspected fentanyl, as well as scales and packaging materials typically used for drug distribution.

A pistol was also found in the vehicle, and it was determined that the driver, a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing firearms. The driver was booked into the Aberdeen City Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
