‘Again Again’ film shoot starts in Aberdeen

Mia Moore Marchant and her small, yet dedicated crew started shooting the sci-fi romance film “Again Again” on Tuesday in downtown Aberdeen.

Marchant, who is not only making her directorial feature debut, wrote the script, is producing it and she’s also starring as the lead character “Aggie.” Marchant, a graduate of Hoquiam High School and Grays Harbor College, said back in April how she wanted to “make Aberdeen look really cool.”

“I love Aberdeen’s grunge,” Marchant said Tuesday just before Cassie Palmisano — who does makeup, hair and production design, as well as serves as the film’s second assistant director — gave Marchant a little touch-up Tuesday.

Heather Ballish, who’s co-directing with Marchant, said you don’t just measure twice and cut once, you probably measure seven or eight times and cut once. She was right. There was a lot of waiting around at the edge of the alley next to The Aberdeen World building. The film crew was staging there but it looked as though the corner of South I and East Market Street was part of the film. In addition to that location, Marchant wants to film elsewhere throughout Aberdeen and Hoquiam.

There was also a lot of walking involved, according to an extra for the film. The extra said he got his steps in Tuesday. While waiting is often the hardest part, it’s necessary in film because the shots need to be just right. That’s where part of Tuesday’s process makes the most sense.

Laffrey Witbrod, cinematographer for the film, was using an iPhone as part of that measurement process. Marchant helped explain the process.

“He’s looking at how the shot composition was going to be,” Marchant said.

To the non filmmaking buff it looked as though he was shooting, but it’s a good thing this film is left to professionals.

On Thursday, a quick check of the film’s IndieGoGo page — similar to GoFundMe — shows the indie film has raised $86,435 from 1,546 donors. To help raise funds for the film, head to their crowdfunding website: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/again-again-a-time-loop-feature-film#/
