On Sunday Hoquiam Police Department Officer Juan Martinez contacted a subject sitting in a vehicle off Emerson Avenue in Hoquiam.
After recognizing the subject, he was checked for wants and was found to have an Ocean Shores Municipal Court misdemeanor warrant for his arrest.
The subject was taken into custody on his confirmed warrant and as he exited his vehicle, numerous items of drug paraphernalia toppled out of the vehicle, to the ground.
Based on Officer Martinez’s observations of drug paraphernalia, he requested the assistance of narcotics detection K9 Niko to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle for illegal narcotics.
Niko “found it” and the vehicle was secured at Hoquiam Police Department pending a search warrant application.
“This was a great example of how to conduct a basic ‘subject stop’ and go beyond the superficial contact,” said Hoquiam Sgt. Jerad Spaur. “This is one of the many ways Hoquiam PD can provide consistent and proactive law enforcement services, wherein, we can expect direct results and positive outcomes.”
