An act of kindness in Aberdeen leaves a lasting impression

A gesture of kindness on a miserably rainy night in Aberdeen made a lasting impression on a relatively new arrival to the Harbor late Monday night.

Wayne Balogh and his wife, Roxanne, moved to Hoquiam about a year ago. Wayne works at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton which, on a good day, is a solid two-hour commute each way between there and his home on Emerson Avenue in Hoquiam.

Monday evening, Balogh was on his way home when he got a flat as he was turning onto Alder Street. It was around 10:30 p.m., his phone wasn’t working, and it was raining buckets. Fortunately for him, he was very close to the Aberdeen fire station when it happened.

“I went up to the door and rang the bell, hoping to use their phone,” said Balogh.

Instead, three men stepped out of the station into the driving rain and changed the tire.

Balogh took the time Tuesday morning to swing by The Daily World offices to make sure the kindness of the Aberdeen firefighters did not go unnoticed.
