A 71-year old east Aberdeen woman died late Tuesday morning after a pickup hit her and left the scene near St. Andrew’s Church on First Street in Aberdeen, according to Aberdeen Police.
The woman, identified as Jeri Rae Stiles by Grays Harbor County Coroner Robert Kegel, was hit just after 7:30 a.m. by a pickup truck at the intersection of East First Street and North G Street. The truck reportedly left the scene eastbound on First Street, police said.
Emergency responders arrived moments later to find the victim laying on East First Street just east of the crosswalk near the center of the roadway, a news release said. She was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital, where she died at 11:30 a.m.
Collision investigators and members of the FARO imaging team (which measures the scene with technology that plots 360 degrees) including a Grays Harbor Sheriff’s deputy assisted with the investigation, according to police.
Witnesses have begun to come forward and assist investigators with piecing together the details, according to the news release. The Aberdeen Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance. They are asking anybody who may have witnessed the events leading up to the collision, the victim being struck, or the suspect vehicle leaving the scene to please contact Detective Jeff Weiss (360-538-4452). It’s possible the driver was unaware a pedestrian was struck, according to the release.
Preliminary information indicates the striking vehicle may be an older-model, dark-colored Ford or Chevrolet pickup truck, the release said. The roadways remained blocked until just before 11:30 a.m., according to the release. The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is planned for later in the week.
