Arrests made in Hoquiam school vandalism incident

Two children have been subjected to the juvenile judicial process

A report by a maintenance supervisor of vandalism on Dec. 29 by kids to Hoquiam High School property resulted in the arrest of two juveniles.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested for malicious mischief, said Lt. Jeff Salstrom of the Hoquiam Police Department, while a 14-year-old girl was arrested for violation of a court order.

The initial call came in over the holiday break, Salstrom said.

“The first report came in just before 1 p.m. on the 29th,” Salstrom said. “He noticed some juveniles, earlier they’d been over there and pushed a porta-potty down a hill.”

Further investigation of the area revealed damage to a door that had been forced, and several broken windows, Salstrom said. The total damage is less than $750, Salstrom said. This kind of vandalism is uncommon for the Hoquiam schools, Salstrom said.

“We don’t have a ton of damage up there. Once a year, maybe,” Salstrom said. “The school has very good surveillance.”
