The Chehalis River will not be open to fishing for spring Chinook salmon this year, the state Department of Fish & Wildlife says. The season had been scheduled from May 1 to June 30.
The department said the number of spring Chinook that are forecast to return to the Chehalis Basin is fewer than the spawning goal to sustain the fishery, which means none can be spared for fishing.
The decision applies to the Chehalis from the mouth at the Highway 101 Bridge to the Highway 6 bridge in the town of Adna and affects Grays Harbor/Thurston/Lewis counties.
