The Chinook Indian Nation held their annual Winter Gathering Jan. 18 at Clatsop Community College in Astoria. The event is a time of renewal and unity, reinforcing the tribe’s commitment to preserving their culture and passing it on to younger generations.
The community came together to share stories, songs and dances, reflecting on the past, present and future of the Chinook people. It was also a chance to connect with other Native nations, many of whom traveled good distances to be there. Their presence added a special touch to the day.
Winter may bring the cold, but it also brings the Chinook community together. The tribe is proud to honor their ancestors by continuing these traditions along the Lower Columbia River.
