Chokers go 1-3 at Simpson University duals

REDDING, Calif. — Grays Harbor College went 1-3 in a series of dual meets at Simpson University in Redding, California on Saturday. The Chokers defeated the host Red Hawks 36-14, but came up short against Sacramento City College, 33-21, Cerritos College, 30-22, and Fresno City College, 33-16.

The Chokers dual with Cerritos came down to the final match, but GHC lost the match and the dual.

Forefits cost the Chokers against Sacramento City. GHC forfeited three matches, giving away 18 points in the dual.

“I was curious to see how we matched up with the top California schools,” GHC coach Phillip Pine said. “They start their season in late August… They are peaking about this time of year and we are just beginning. We were very competitive with them and represented GHC well.”

GHC’s D.J. Morrow and Jimmy Jones both went 4-0 on the day, with Morrow winning all four matches by pin. Logan Sundheim went 3-1, while Christian Hill, Aaron Blanchard and Josh Pine all went 2-2.

GHC has a dual at Highline Community College on Thursday.
