City council meetings round-up

Aberdeen

Representatives of the Washington Courts’ Blake Refund Bureau, an organization that provides resources to assist people with any Blake-related convictions, gave a presentation about what they do.

City Administrator Ruth Clemens delivered a comprehensive First Quarter Performance Metrics Report, highlighting goals that have been met or exceeded, as well as pointing out areas of improvement.

Councilor and public works liaison Joshua Francy gave an update on the traffic light study that is currently underway along Market Street.

Voted unanimously to amend Aberdeen Municipal Code 12.41.010 to expand the areas prohibiting sitting or lying on a public sidewalk to include areas on E, F, E. 1st, and E. 2nd streets.

Elma

At the Greater Grays Harbor, Inc. Lunch with the Mayors event on March 25, Elma Mayor Josh Collette spoke of the desire to develop a parks and recreation plan, something the city of Elma hasn’t updated since 1970. On April 7, a draft of the Elma Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan was unveiled.

Hoquiam

Awarded $15,000 in Lodging Tax Advisory Committee grants to 7th Street Theatre ($3,500), Pushrods of Hoquiam ($3,000), Hoquiam Loggers’ Playday, Inc. ($3,500), Lady Grizzlies Fastpitch ($1,000) and Grays Harbor Shorebird and Nature Festival $4,000. Not awarded: PAWS of Grays Harbor and Hoquiam Beautification Team.

Approved the sale of a 2010 Hoquiam Fire Department ambulance to the city of Cosmopolis for $5,000.

Approved the purchase of a parcel of property for $15,000 for the North Shore levee project. Hoquiam City Administrator Brian Shay said via email, “We are continuing full steam ahead to get both of the levee projects 100% shovel ready for construction and believe that the federal issues will work themselves out in a positive manner with the federal grants getting awarded as planned over the past four years. We are working very hard and collaborating with all stakeholders to get the FEMA grants secured and the projects to the finish line.”

McCleary

The McCleary Historical Society delivered a park improvement presentation and engaged in a discussion with the council.

McCleary City Attorney Madison Pleasant presented the second reading of a resolution to establish the City of McCleary Public Records Act and procedures and policy.

Councilors held a lengthy discussion about changing the city’s form of government and how and when to make such a change.

Ocean Shores

Announced two vacancies on the Parks Board, two vacancies on the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, four vacancies on the Fresh Waterways Advisory Committee, and one vacancy on the Library Board of Trustees.

Appointed Janet Grant, James Fitzgerald, Jay Bosh and David Royce to the Fresh Waterways Advisory Committee.
