The Hoquiam School District has updated changes to its summer lunch program, which began June 22 and will run through Aug. 28.
Anyone age 18 and younger is eligible for free meals and must be present at one of several distribution sites to pick them up. One lunch and one breakfast will be provided each day; on Fridays, three breakfasts and three lunches will be distributed to each individual to cover meals through the weekend.
The program is working with Coastal Harvest, which supplies food banks, so that food can be more easily distributed directly to families.
“In addition to our lunch distribution, we have partnered with Coastal Harvest,” said district food service director Christina Hansen.” They are providing boxes of fresh produce, chicken strips, and breakfast sandwiches to distribute with our free lunches.”
Availability of these products will happen on random days. “Make sure to pick up your lunches at one of our sites — YMCA, Emerson Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Central Elementary, Rosewood Manor and Washington School — every day at the times provided so that you don’t miss out on the extra free items available,” said Hansen.
