The Cosi Art Kids enjoyed a little “plein-air painting” on Saturday, Aug. 28, using a trebuchet to splatter one wall of the Cosi Art Center with paint-filled balloons.
“Kids, parents, grandparents all battled getting slick paint into balloons before they exploded in hand,” said Judi Lohr of the Cosi Art Center. “The trebuchet, built by the Grays Harbor College carpentry program, was next. Young and old gave it a try. Aiming high and low, the wall was peppered with ‘splats’ of many colors. A little physics combined with a lot of paint for Phase One of an anticipated summer’s end project.”
Plein-air painting is a French term for painting outside in the open air.
The Cosi Art Center, located at 1136 First St. in Cosmopolis, is planning for Phase Two, with “larger splats and more colors,” said Lohr. If community members have bright exterior colors left from recent projects, the Cosi Art kids would love to have them for Phase Two, she added.
