County passes 1,000 COVID cases mark

With 54 new cases over long holiday weekend, Grays Harbor County at 1,020 cases

Grays Harbor County reached a milestone for COVID-19 cases over the long holiday weekend.

The Grays Harbor County Public Health & Social Services Department reported the county exceeded 1,000 total COVID-19 cases over the Thanksgiving holiday.

As of Sunday at 11:59 p.m., the department reported 54 new cases since it last updated its numbers on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at the same time, bringing the total case count to 1,020 with 84 active cases.

No COVID-related deaths were reported during that time frame, keeping the total deaths for the county at 17.

Grays Harbor County remains in Phase 3 of the state’s re-opening plan with a rate of 205 new cases per 100,000 over a two week period as of Nov. 26.

The county has a testing rate of 283.6 per 100,000 with a 4.9% positive testing rate as of Nov. 24.

Pacific County — which saw a recent spike that peaked at 340 total cases on Saturday, Nov. 23 — reports 260 confirmed cases as of Saturday at 11:59 p.m.

According to the Pacific County Public Health & Human Services Department website, the county has 260 confirmed cases with eight hospitalizations and three deaths as of Saturday.

The state’s phase and risk assessment website had Pacific County at a case rate of 268 per 100,000 over a two week period as of 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 26.

Pacific County reported a testing rate of 96.4 per 100,000 with a 13% positive testing rate over a one-week period.

Despite the recent spike in positive case counts, Pacific County remains in Phase 3.

In the entire state, 22 counties are in the higher-risk Phase 2 with 17 counties — including Grays Harbor and Pacific counties — in Phase 3. No counties fall into the extremely high-risk category of Phase 1, nor the target category of Phase 4.
