Crash briefly shuts down major downtown Aberdeen street

The driver of the pickup truck went to get checked out for injuries under his own power.

A truck running a red light on Wednesday morning shut down the road through downtown Aberdeen, forcing traffic to reroute for hours while the scene was cleared.

The semi-truck was headed west on East Wishkah Street and ran a light, striking a pickup truck headed south on South H Street at approximately 9:34 a.m., said Lt. Andy Snodgrass of the Aberdeen Police Department.

“The semi-truck was headed westbound and the Chevy was headed southbound,” Snodgrass said in a phone interview. “The driver of the semi was cited for failure to yield.”

No drugs or alcohol were involved, Snodgrass said, and the truck was certified by the Washington State Patrol as good to continue operating following an inspection after the crash. The street was reopened

The driver of the pickup truck went to go get his injuries checked out, but declined transport by ambulance to the hospital, Snodgrass said.

“Even when you have a green light, it’s always worth taking a second look,” Snodgrass said.
