Suspect detained in Beacon Hill Road car prowls

According to Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers, a 25-year old man arrested by Aberdeen Police for possession of drug paraphernalia early Friday morning was found to be in possession of several items related to the rash of car prowls reported on Beacon Hill Drive. The suspect is a convicted felon with a history of possessing stolen property and drug offenses. Hoquiam Police are working with Aberdeen Police to interview the suspect further as they try to determine the whereabouts of a handgun stolen from another vehicle the same night.

A resident of an apartment complex in the 400 block of Beacon Hill Drive heard breaking glass outside just before midnight Wednesday. When he went outside he noticed the driver’s side window of his truck had been smashed and a loaded handgun was taken from the glovebox. A backpack was also taken. Hoquiam officers responded and a K-9 from the Sheriff’s Department was deployed. The dog found a tool the suspect may have used and it was taken as evidence, but a suspect was not found. Police received several prowl calls in the same area through Thursday morning. Several vehicles appeared to have been entered with items missing ranging from change to electronics and personal belongings including a wallet.

Aberdeen Police need help locating identifying car prowler

There has been a significant increase in vehicle prowls and burglaries in Aberdeen during the last couple of weeks, according to Aberdeen Police Lieutenant Kevin Darst. Thursday night, Aberdeen Patrol officers made three arrests of suspects that may be tied to a number of these crimes. Any property that was recovered has been identified and the victims have been notified. Police have also obtained video of a vehicle prowl in progress. The person is heavily clothed, but has a very identifiable walk and look. Their face is not visible, and police are looking for any help in identifying the suspect in the video. Darst reminds everyone to not leave valuables in their cars and to call 911 if they see anyone out looking suspicious. The video can be seen on The Daily World’s Facebook page.
