Driver passes out, Aberdeen police makes drug bust

On Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 12:02 p.m., Aberdeen Aberdeen Police Department officers were dispatched to the 100 block of S. Park Street regarding a male who was passed out in the driver’s seat of a silver Toyota Tundra.

When officers arrived, they observed the male in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition and drug paraphernalia nearby. Officers were able to wake the driver and, based on their observations, asked if he would perform field sobriety tests, which he agreed to.

The driver, a 42-year-old resident of Hoquiam, attempted several field tests but failed. He was subsequently arrested for physical control of a vehicle while under the influence. The driver was transported to the Aberdeen City Jail.

Officers requested assistance from the Hoquiam Police Department and their narcotics canine to search the exterior of the vehicle. Upon arrival, the canine alerted to the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to the Aberdeen Police Department.

A search warrant was obtained for the driver’s blood to facilitate further testing related to his physical control of the vehicle. Additionally, a warrant was granted to search the truck.

During the search, officers discovered a loaded pistol, drug scales, drug paraphernalia, packaging materials, 113 grams of methamphetamine and a large amount of U.S. currency. It was also determined that the driver is a convicted felon.

The driver was booked into the Aberdeen City Jail on several charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, physical control of a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
