Fire destroys trailer north of Hoquiam

The site has had a number of issues with illegal burns, said the responding fire chief

A passerby on U.S. 101 north of Hoquiam on Tuesday night spotted a fire that destroyed a camper unit.

Grays Harbor Fire District 6 personnel responded to the call, said Chief Tim Spradlin.

“That call came in at approximately 11:15. It came in as a trailer on fire call. The type of the trailer was one of those that slides in the box of a pickup track,” Spradlin said ina phone interview. “It was a derelict area that- I don’t know if they were living in it or not or just putting garbage in it.”

There was no one in evidence when D6 personnel responded, Spradlin said.

“There was no one attending the fire except the fire crew. It was basically an abandoned fire,” Spradlin said. “We took a water tender and an engine and three personnel.”

The trailer was completely destroyed, Spradlin said. The address has had several calls previously for similar fire activity, Spradlin said.

“This is pretty much an illegal burn,” Spradlin said. “This particular individual has been cited for numerous illegal burns.”

Law enforcement personnel are attempting to contact the owner, Spradlin said.

The county is currently under a burn ban for all outdoor burning.
