Heart by Heart will be performing classic Heart songs at a free concert at Olympic Stadium on Saturday.
Hoquiam Mayor Ben Winkelman has been working on providing such a show for more than a month. Originally set to take place on Anderson and Middleton Co. property on the south end of town, logistical issues arose that led Winkelman to propose moving the show to Olympic Stadium just a few weeks before the scheduled show.
“Lots of paperwork, but finished it up late (Monday),” said Winkelman. “It’s all a go.”
Heart by Heart includes two former members of the Seattle rock band Heart — bassist Steve Fossen and drummer Michael Derosier. In 2008, Fossen met singer Somar Macek, and along with Lizzy Daymon on guitar and keyboards and guitarist Chard Quist, the band now play shows featuring classic Heart songs and some of the deeper cuts known mostly by hard-core Heart fans.
The show is put on by the city with Emerald City Events and headline sponsor Five Star Dealerships; Res Com Flooring is another local sponsor.
Doors open at 4 p.m. and the show starts at 5:30 p.m. Masks are required for entry and must be worn throughout the event “so we can continue to host outdoor concerts safely in our community,” said Winkelman. There should be ample room to spread out during the show.
Heart by Heart is headlining, but the show also features DJ Tripdubb; DJ Life; and added music performance by The Illegitimates.
No outside food or drink is allowed and general concessions are provided by the Hoquiam Booster Club. “Every seat in the house will have an amazing show experience,” said Winkelman. “Feel free to bring Heart memorabilia for signatures after the show if you like.”
Thanks to the support of the local sponsors, there will be little cost to the city for the even other than turning the stadium lights on, noted Winkelman.
