Grays Harbor College will present the largest graduating class in school history Friday evening, with a total of 433 diplomas awarded and nearly 200 graduates participating in the official event.
This year’s ceremony is at 7 p.m. Friday at Stewart Field. Aberdeen Police Chief Steve Shumate, who graduated from GHC in 1990, will be the commencement speaker.
Each year, Grays Harbor College recognizes students with the highest GPAs, here are those top 13 students:
Michael Urbaniak
Michael Urbaniak, of Hoquiam, is receiving an Associate of Arts degree with a focus on writing. He was a playwright in the 10-minute play festival this year. After leaving school, Urbaniak intends to take a break before deciding whether to continue his education.
Lucius Veiga
Lucius Veiga, of Ocean Shores, graduates with an Associate of Arts degree. The North Beach High School graduate participated in the students of color conference in 2018 and 2019, and tutored in the school’s Learning Center and the TRiO Stem workshops. After Grays Harbor, he will attend Northwestern University with a scholarship before planning to attend medical school.
Nolan Palmer
Nolan Palmer, of Cosmopolis, is graduating with an Associate of Arts degree. He is an Aberdeen High School graduate and was a member of the school’s engineering club, Aberdeen High School’s marching band, the Skills USA program and the Boy Scouts. Palmer will now attend Montana State University and study mechanical engineering.
Joshua Latimer
Joshua Latimer, from Aberdeen, is receiving an Associate of Science degree. He was a member of the college’s engineering club and plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering at Washington State University.
Raven A. Stoney
Raven A. Stoney, of Aberdeen, will receive an Associate of Arts degree. Stoney held a work-study position in the college’s Writing Center as a tutor since the center’s creation. After Grays Harbor, Stoney will transfer to Washington State University to get a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in English.
Kamryn Adkins
Kamryn Adkins, of Raymond, will graduate with an Associate of Arts degree as a Running Start student. Adkins played softball at Willapa Valley High School and was the Student Body President at Willapa Valley. In the fall, she will attend Pacific Lutheran University to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and to continue playing softball.
Dakota Ross
Dakota Ross, from Westport, is graduating with an Associates degree in engineering. Ross will transfer to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona, to study aerospace engineering. At the college, she was a member of the engineering club and the Phi Theta Kappa society. She is an employee of Aloha Alabama in Westport.
Adrian Greenway
Adrian Greenway is from Westport and graduates with an Associates degree in art from Grays Harbor College. Greenway was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa society and has been on the college president’s honor roll six times. After Grays Harbor, Adrian plans to transfer to a four-year college to continue studying art.
Sierra Templeton
Sierra Templeton is from Aberdeen, a Running Start student who graduates with an Associate of Arts degree focusing in liberal arts. She plans to transfer to Western Washington University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in journalism. While at the college she was involved in the drama program and the Grays Harbor Media Club.
Zoe Templeton
Zoe Templeton, from Aberdeen, is graduating with an Associate of Arts degree in liberal arts. She participated in the Bishop Center’s musical theater program, and was a Running Start student at Aberdeen High School. She will now attend the University of Washington and study psychology.
Cain McCullough
Cain McCullough, from Aberdeen, is graduating with an Associate of Arts degree, after graduating from Hoquiam High School. After Grays Harbor he will attend the University of Washington to major in accounting.
Kaiden Coty
Kaiden Coty, from Raymond, is graduating with an Associate of Arts degree. Coty was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Society, was one of 50 Coca Cola Silver Scholars in the country and was on the All-Washington Academic Team. He will now attend the University of Washington to major in biochemistry before planning to attend medical school to become a surgeon.
Emma Nitahara
Emma Nitahara is graduating with an Associates of Harts degree. She is transferring to the University of Washington in the fall where she will study biology with plans of becoming a pharmacist.
