More than 150 area junior high and high school music students will take part in a daylong jazz festival beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Bishop Center. The event, hosted by the Grays Harbor College Jazz Band, features an evening performance by the Remi Bolduc Jazz Ensemble at 7 p.m.
Schools performing include Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Montesano, Elma, Rochester and Willapa Valley. Each group will take the stage for 15 minutes followed by a clinic from one of three Grays Harbor College music faculty members.
The GHC Jazz Band will perform at noon, followed by a performance and workshop by guest artist Remi Bolduc.
“The festival will serve as a free opportunity for local music students and educators to receive expertise and feedback from our music faculty and noted jazz artists,” said music instructor Bill Dyer with Grays Harbor College. “It’s also an opportunity to perform on stage at the Bishop Center for the Performing Arts, to collaborate and support other local area school-aged jazz musicians, and to promote the Grays Harbor College campus and music department.”
Tickets for the Remi Bolduc Jazz Ensemble tribute to jazz icon Dave Brubeck at 7 p.m. are available online on the Bishop Center website.
