A Grays Harbor man was sentenced this month for hunting violations committed in 2022.
Randy Cox, 28, was charged for felony firearm possession, six counts of elk poaching and wastage of big game, and criminal trespassing, according to a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife news release.
He was sentenced to 29 months imprisonment, a $4,000 fine and a two-year suspension of all hunting privileges, according to the news release. The WDFW intends to seek a lifetime hunting suspension of Cox, according to the release.
Cox was arrested in 2022 after another hunter contacted WDFW officers and reported that Cox had bragged about illegally hunting elk before the season opened, according to the release. Cox was known to officers from a report earlier in the year about an elk harvest.
Cox was located in a vehicle, along with several other individuals. Cox admitted to shooting indiscriminately at an elk heard and retrieving a spike bull, illegal for that season, according to the release.
Officers were able to locate the remains based on Cox’s admission. Charges for an additional suspect in the case are pending.
