Thousands of people filled the stands and walked the track at the Sea Breeze Oval track and grandstands Friday evening and Saturday, all there to raise money for cancer research and honor survivors and those who have fallen to the disease.
“The turnout was pretty good,” said Grays Harbor Relay for Life captain Debi Luther. She said the increase in online funding efforts for individuals may have cut some into the amount the weekend event raised, but there were still 36 teams at the track and a total of $143,646.57 raised as of Sunday, with some funds yet to be tallied. The initial goal set by Grays Harbor Relay for Life was $200,000, and the final total for the year will be revealed August 31. The top Grays Harbor team was listed as Team Bob with more than $36,000; in second place was the team of Jenny’s Joggers and Tom’s Trotters with more than $13,000 as of Monday morning.
