There’s still an open seat on the Hoquiam City Council, after three applicants were found not eligible for the vacant Ward 3 position.
At Monday’s City Council meeting, Hoquiam Community Services Coordinator Tracy Wood told the council that two of the applicants had not lived within the city for a year, which is a requirement. A third candidate, who appeared to be qualified, actually lives just outside the border of Ward 3.
Interested candidates who live within Ward 3 now have until Oct. 23 to get letters of interest to the city to fill the vacancy left when Shannon Patterson resigned Aug. 25. To qualify, you must live within Ward 3, which encompasses southwest Hoquiam, have resided in the city for at least a year, and be a registered voter. Letters of interest can be sent to twood@cityofhoquiam.com, or mailed attention Tracy Wood, 609 8th St., Hoquiam, WA 98550.
A map of Hoquiam’s wards can be found online at https://cityofhoquiam.com/government/hoquiam-city-council/, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the “view ward boundary map” link.
Per state law, the council has 90 days to fill a vacant council seat. If it fails to do so, the task falls on the Board of County Commissioners.
