Hoquiam police investigate shooting near YMCA

The call came in just after midnight

Hoquiam police are investigating a shooting after an early-Saturday call.

Officers were dispatched to a call reporting a shooting on the 2400 block of Aberdeen Avenue at about 12:30 a.m. and found a 29-year-old Hoquiam man lying in the parking lot of the YMCA with a gunshot wound, according to an Hoquiam Police Department social media post.

Officers investigating believe the Hoquiam man, along with a 31-year-old Ocean Shores man, went to a residence on the 2400 block of Aberdeen Avenue, and got in an altercation with residents, resulting in someone shooting the 29-year-old.

The injured man was transported to Harbor Regional Health before being medevac’d to a hospital in Tacoma for advanced care. He was in stable condition at last report, according to the post.

Police are investigating the shooting as of Saturday, according to the post. HPD believes the incident was isolated and does not believe there’s an ongoing threat to the public.
