Hundreds flood Main Street for Historic Montesano Car Show

242 classic, modern and custom cars and trucks line blocks of downtown

Main Street in Montesano was packed with hundreds of car enthusiasts for the 16th annual Historic Montesano Car Show Saturday.

Show coordinator Larry Foss said there were 242 cars in this year’s show. The more entries, the more impressive the show, and the proceeds collected from entry fees benefit several local charities.

“Unlike many car shows, the Historic Montesano Car Show is completely organized and presented by community volunteers, not a club and not a casino, and all proceeds — except what we spend on incidentals like printing of flyers — go directly to local charities,” said Foss.

Checks were presented before the awards were handed out Saturday afternoon to the Montesano Food Bank, Chehalis Valley Historical Museum, Montesano Community Center, Friends of the Timberland Library, Montesano Police Association for their bike helmet program, Grays Harbor Community Hospital Cardiac Rehab Center, and Miss Grays Harbor for a scholarship program.

Friday, after the ribbon cutting ceremony officially opening Pioneer Avenue East after a two-year major construction project, classic car enthusiasts gathered at the nearby Montesano Community Center to celebrate Les Foss’s 50 years of classic car experience. He and his wife, Ruth, cut the ribbon and were available later to talk about his unmistakable purple 1941 Chevrolet Coupe.
