Man arrested after breaking into recruiting office

It’s not immediately clear what the motivation was

An Aberdeen man was arrested Monday after breaking into the Marine Corps recruiting office in downtown Aberdeen.

Jenson Hicks, 35, was arrested for burglary and second-degree malicious mischief and taken into custody, according to an email from Cmdr. Steve Timmons of the Aberdeen Police Department.

The initial call came as a disorderly man trashing the recruiting office around 1:21 p.m. Monday, Timmons said. The recruiting office was unoccupied at the time.

Officers arriving on the scene recognized Hicks, and attempted to contact him through the door, which Hicks had made entry through and then locked. After repeated attempts to talk with him, Hicks opened the door and was taken into custody.

The office was trashed, including damage to drywall and the Marine Corps decal, Timmons said, with an estimated value of the damage at approximately $2,000.

Hicks was taken to city jail and later transported to county jail, Timmons said.
