Man arrested following bus station stabbing

A Hoquiam man was arrested in Aberdeen on Saturday morning after a stabbing at the Aberdeen Bus Mall.

Gabriel Williamson, 41, was arrested for misdemeanor charges as the prosecutor’s office is moving forward felony assault charges, said Cmdr. Steve Timmons of the Aberdeen Police Department. The call came in at 8:41 a.m. on Saturday morning, Timmons said.

“We get a call by a transit employee that someone had just been stabbed,” Timmons said. “The victim was uncooperative. We located the suspect on the 100 block of East Wishkah.”

Williamson was taken into custody for misdemeanor charges of unlawful bus conduct, disorderly conduct and obstructing law enforcement, Timmons said. No immediate reason for the stabbing was forthcoming, Timmons said.

“The guy was intoxicated. Maybe something was said. We just don’t know. It looked unprovoked,” Timmons said. “This is pretty uncommon.”

The victim was evaluated for a severe laceration, Timmons said.

“The victim was transported to the hospital where he received treatment. He was uncooperative with us,” Timmons said. “Didn’t want to press charges.”

Timmons said the investigation into a possible prior connection between the suspect and victim is ongoing.

“That’s why we’re thinking there has to be some sort of history,” Timmons said. “A completely unprovoked attack between the two is not something we typically see.”

The incident doesn’t represent an ongoing threat to the public, Timmons said.

“It’s safe downtown. It truly is,” Timmons said. “This is rare.”

Williamson is currently in custody at the Aberdeen city jail.
