Man busted for heroin while 1-year-old was in the car

Hoquiam police arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of a drug violation after the city’s animal control officer came across the man parked in a car and apparently preparing to use heroin.

The man’s 1-year-old son was in the back seat, prompting police to call Child Protective Services.

The officer, Tom Taylor, walked up to a vehicle in the 200 block of 25th Street and Taylor saw the man with a metal spoon in his hand and plastic bag of what appeared to be black tar heroin, according to police.

Police say the suspect tried to hide the items while Taylor called a patrol unit. Patrol officers took the man into custody and recovered drug paraphernalia from the car.
