Man dead after being struck twice; police seeking vehicles, drivers

The fatal hit-and-run occurred Wednesday evening amidst foul weather.

Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident after a 31-year-old Aberdeen man died after being struck by two different vehicles on Wednesday evening.

Cody P. Scott, 31, was pronounced dead at Grays Harbor Community Hospital after being transported from the scene.

The Aberdeen Police Department and Aberdeen Fire Department were alerted that a pedestrian had been struck and “completely ran over” at the intersection of Simpson Avenue and Scammell Street, according to a news release by APD Lt. Andy Snodgrass. The collision occurred adjacent to Duffy’s Restaurant.

Emergency personnel attempted to administer aid before transporting him to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, Snodgrass said.

Scott was struck by two vehicles, Snodgrass said, tentatively identified as pickup trucks. Both trucks fled the scene, Snodgrass said.

“The subject being struck by two vehicles is unusual,” Snodgrass said in an interview. “It was dark and rainy last night so it was hard to see.”

Traffic was rerouted off Simpson Avenue for four hours while the investigation was ongoing. Detectives are currently backtracking, Snodgrass said, checking camera footage in the area to identify the vehicles involved in the collision.

“We’re going to have to find both vehicles and both drivers,” Snodgrass said.

It’s unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, Snodgrass said.
