Man found dead in single-vehicle crash Friday

Police are unsure what caused the man to crash

The Grays Harbor County Coroner’s Office has identified a man found dead in his car near Donkey Creek Road on Friday.

Michael Baldwin, 71, of Humptulips, was identified in a news release by the coroner’s office on Monday.

Police were initially notified that Baldwin was missing before a passerby saw his car crashed, said Undersheriff Kevin Schrader of the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office.

“A passerby saw one vehicle off the road into a tree,” Schrader said. “The calling party found a deceased male inside the car. He had to drive to cell service to call us and then brought us back to the scene.”

There was no sign of braking before the impact, Schrader said.

“The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree,” Schrader said. “A possible medical event, I would say.”

An autopsy has been scheduled for Baldwin, said Coroner George Kelley.
